Gov. Rick Perry Obstructs Death Penalty Investigation

Saturday, October 3, 2009

Gov. Rick Perry of Texas has axed an investigation into whether or not an innocent man was executed.

[On] Wednesday, Texas governor Rick Perry abruptly removed three members of the commission. In their place, he appointed a new chair with a reputation as a hardline conservative prosecutor, who promptly canceled the hearing at which Beyler was to testify.
Why did Perry do this? Obviously, to stop the truth from getting out. According to many experts, the state of Texas executed an innocent man. Perry does not want this to be proved, for several reasons. The first is that Texas will be forced to confront its gleeful practice of executing convicts, and secondly, Perry will have to confront questions on whether he knowingly refused to commute convicts for whom there was a reasonable chance they were innocent.
